Description The Vice President of Legal is responsible for leading corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives.
The role provides senior leadership with effective advice on company strategies and their implementation, manages the legal function, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel.
The Vice President of Legal is directly involved in complex business transactions in negotiating critical contracts.
What to expect:
Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of all matters.
Serve as key lawyer/legal advisor on all major business transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures.
Judge the merits of court cases filed against or on behalf of the company, work with the appropriate executive(s) to define a strategic defense, and approve settlements of disputes where warranted.
Assume ultimate responsibility for advising the business and ensuring that the company conducts its business in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Partner with business functional leaders to navigate complex issues and develop policies and procedures.
Structure and manage the company's internal legal function and staff.
Oversee the selection, retention, management and evaluation of all outside counsel.
Advise on legal aspects of the company's structure, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities.
Experience/Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in related field and Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
Must be member in good standing of the Florida bar, or licensed to practice in another jurisdiction and eligible to obtain certification as authorized house counsel from the Florida bar.

years of job-specific experience, ideally with both large law firm corporate/transactional experience and in-house experience.
Experience working on matters of corporate governance and/or acquisitions, supervising support staff, and managing cost-effectiveness of outside legal resources needed.
Background in highly regulated environment preferred (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.
)Experience in directing strategy and managing complex litigation cases.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
